Ventilation system selection software

Selection of software for ventilation system

- is a product developed by our in-house specialist team. It is used to compute smoke exhaust and smoke protection systems, to calculate and select the optimum operating parameters for ZVV, ZIS ZVSh air curtains, NOVA warm-air heaters, ducted ACs, and also for general ventilation systems.

 Calculations for smoke exhaust systems were developed according to the provisions of Section 5, Appendix 22 of SNiP 2.04.05-91* “Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning”. Calculations for pressure loss in valves, offtakes and smoke exhaust shafts are based on Guideline 4.91 for SNiP 2.04.05-91 “Smoke Protection in the Case of Fire (2nd revision)”, Promstroyproekt, Moscow, 1992, and Guideline 15.91 for SNiP 2.04.05-91 “Smoke Protection in Case of Fire and Ventilation of Underground Parking”, Promstroyproekt, Moscow, 1995. Our product also adheres to recommendations stipulated in “Introduction to Fire Dynamics” by D.Drysdale, Stroyizdat, Moscow, 1990.

 The software takes into account differences in the way gases are being emitted depending on the type of fans in use – roof, radial or axial. It is assumed that emissions from roof and radial fans do not have a pressure dynamic component. The program calculates the optimum operating parameters for smoke exhaust fans: gas temperature before it passes through the fan; fan capacity; and the pressure required to reduced it to normal conditions (temperature 20?С, density 1.2 kg/m3).

Calculations for the smoke protection system have been developed according to “Recommendations for Smoke Protection in Case of Fire to SNiP 2.04.05-91* “Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning” Guidance Documents in Construction No. 41-1.99.

The program calculates plenum smoke ventilation for:
• elevator shafts for type 1 smoke controlled staircases;
• elevator shafts for type 2 smoke controlled staircases and supply of the general air flow to the elevator shaft and staircase;
• elevator shafts for type 2 staircases and separate air supply in the elevator shaft and staircase;
• elevator shafts for type 2 staircases with zoning and separate air supplies in the elevator shaft and staircase.

Pressure loss in ventilation systems from outside air intake points to the overpressure shaft air entering point is calculated according to traditional methods for computing pressure loss in industrial ventilation systems. As a result of calculations, the program defines the following necessary parameters for air pressurization fans: fan capacity and required pressure reduced to normal conditions (temperature 20?С, density 1.2 kg/m3).

 The program also enables selection of the required number of heaters - NOVA warm-air heaters - to ensure indoor thermal balance.

For optimum efficiency calculations take into account outdoor and indoor temperature, coolant parameters, building type and dimensions, and the capacity of other heat sources.

To define a specific “thermal spot” it is necessary to set the correct jet inclination on unit flaps.

Having completed the necessary calculations, the design engineer must then select the optimal solution based on: price; feasibility; etc. It is essential to ensure that the heater is installed at a location that guarantees a safe and comfortable working environment.

 Calculations for ZVV, ZIS and ZVSh (KLIM) air curtains. Curtains are designed to work efficiently even during harsh winter conditions. High wind velocity and low temperatures are taken into account.

Guidelines for selecting an air curtain:
• It is essential for an air curtain jet to reach the floor and cover the entire door width.
• Air temperature at the jet tip should comply with regulations (SNiP, customer’s requirements, technical specification).

To select an appropriate air curtain, it is essential to take into account the type of premises, gateway dimensions, indoor air temperature, assumed outside air temperature and wind velocity. In addition, it is required to determine the assumed temperature of air mixture flowing through the gateway (jet average temperature).

 Having selected the type of curtain that is required, it is then necessary to decide on which particular air curtain best meets your requirements.  Curtain efficiency can be measured by the reduction of heat loss.
When selecting fans it is necessary to determine the required capacity and pressure (total or static depending on the fan type) and the most appropriate fan type. Several models may meet the customer’s requirements. It is then a matter of selecting the most desirable based on fan capacity, overall and mounting dimensions, weight, motor type and price. We are pleased to offer advice but the final selection made by the customer.

 Design engineers are free to use our program to make the above-mentioned calculations.
